In another post (on TIF) I outlined the problem that cropped up this Spring. The sidewalk that runs directly in front of the house (which is also our place of business) dropped and formed Lake Butler right in front of the front door.
The basic problem is one that won't likely be fixed because the municipality in which we reside has allowed our street to be repaved numerous times without taking it back down to the original grade level. Consequently we have poor drainage on the front of our property.
At first I thought that only two slabs had drooped, but the concrete guy showed me how they were only the worst ones and the whole sidewalk needed to be taken out, the base grade corrected and new concrete poured. Checking with a four foot level and a straight eight foot board, I determined that he has a good eye. Better than mine.
So, when this Spring Equinox Storm melts away and the general weather pattern becomes more favorable, we'll do just that.
I sincerely hope this is the last concrete project I need to do. I could have bought a new car with the money I've spent on concrete.
